I always loved to draw, colour in (like everyone else), and occasionally make logos for my friends and my own bands that I was in, but that’s pretty normal.

Today I was cleaning my room and I found this, something I’d obviouslly made for my dad’s work. I must of been 8 or something!

Who needs Indesign when you can staple photos to coloured paper, and misspell the copy in greylead pencil!

How to work out how much you should charge when you're freelancing

How to work out how much you should charge when you're freelancing:
I’ve heard a lot of different theories, but this one seems to be the most succinct

Australian INfront: Job - Jnr / Mid-Weight Graphic Designer

Australian INfront: Job - Jnr / Mid-Weight Graphic Designer:
this would be my dream job!

such a good album cover. i first saw it as the bg on kissy sell...

such a good album cover. i first saw it as the bg on kissy sell out’s myspace. now i know it’s a cd cover, thanks to my lecturer!

I’m not oscar the grouch (yet), but I know that commuting...

I’m not oscar the grouch (yet), but I know that commuting to the city will drive me batshit insane in a matter of weeks. It’s printed on coated stock (which I didn’t want), but everything else looks fine. (minus a few typos) even the layout is ok, and i never printed proofs which is a massive no no in design. next issue will be way easier to make with this under my belt.

1. It may be slightly less wide - i measured a magazine in japan that was 250mm x 18mm and it just felt better+ i wont need to crop ads as much.

2. if i can get more ads and content it will be a bit thicker+more to read

3. Order less! Although this order was significantly less than last years mag, I think I could get away with 1000 copies for Caulfield. We’ll see. (people pass them around, leave them lying around.) This will mean an easier budget for us as well.

That’s about it. I hope people like it and want to put their own content in it. One day I want to put this motherfucker in an I-Pad!

This will be my last (batshit insane) japanese post.

This will be my last (batshit insane) japanese post.

Photo

Supreme x Northface back from tokyo!! it’s all a bit of a...

Supreme x Northface back from tokyo!! it’s all a bit of a blur, but it was mad fun.. now im off to my first lecture at uni (already missed 2). gulp

ABC-MART!

ABC-MART!

visited kamakura today, i thought it would be good to get out of...

visited kamakura today, i thought it would be good to get out of the city for a bit. it’s fun, but it is a bit suffucating after 6 days or so.
i bought some japanese nikes today. my spending is officially lost all control. you wont get mugged, raped, murdered or even looked at the wrong way in tokyo, but you will spend every last yen that you can convert (it’s really hard to find atm’s)

Roppongi is shit both day and night, just less seedy in the day. nothing to do there, probably the least ‘japanese.’ last night went out there-probably more russian escorts than japanese girls.

ate maybe the healthiest burger ive ever had: steamed bun-tuna, and wasabi sauce.

visited maybe the biggest magazine store ever-but there were no SEATS!! but damn they had some quality stuff in there. a whole section was dedicated to little photo books of newly born kittens growing into cats…again wtf

some huge demonstration rally in the street-couldnt work out what it was about.

It was frigid and raining lightly this morning for the tokyo marathon. Every 10th person was dressed as a videogame character or just be wearing a crazy hat. they were still taking it seriously, but be dressed as luigi or a big chicken.

breakfast: mtn dew + ramen

shinjuko station is apparently the busiest in the world. i believe it, but you get bumped less than at flinders st. everyone here actually stands to the side, and queues to get into the train. noone shoves, noone runs for the train and then swears loudly when they dont get in- and when they’re sick, they don’t cough in your face, they wear mouth masks. mad respect!!

also when i finished my roll, i didnt roll it back up, so when i opened the back i just spoilt it. so dont expect any photos.

not heaps of people at the hostel, theres more staff-or people who work here for free accom, and thats who ive been hanging out with.

ive got 2 more full days, thought id check out the fish markets tomorow morning, but apart from that im in no rush, ive throuroughly seen everything i wanted to see, but i know that ive only maybe seen 1% of what tokyo has to offer.

daikenyama

japanese people are either sleeping, or on their phones on the train. and never talking or eating- it makes the frankston line look 10x worse than it already is.

Most people actually know english, my bad.

i have never seen so many shoes-good shoes in my life, or daypacks.

nigerians are in Tokyo as well… they’re everywhere!

I think i like j pop, and k pop (google hyuna) for a few reasons.

I got asked if i wanted a haircut by a guy who was just walking near me-he was a hairdresser… it was weird

then i got asked at shibuya station if I wanted to work for Abercrombie & Fitch (Ginza)—-wtf????

I have tried basically every drink you can have from a vending machine, a lot are bad. A lot are just variations of lemon tea, and a lot are variations of cold coffee… ‘BOSS’ ‘FIRE’ etc.

going out to roppongi hills tonight (it’s 5 now). so that should be big!

because it’s so rare to see another tourist, when you make eye contact it’s really weird, it’s like ‘oh you’re here as well, fair enough’.

today was free coffe day at Mc Donalds: i swore before i left i wouldnt eat at any western chains (thinking of eating at Dennys before i leave tho), but i think thats a good enough reason to go in.

ads are as weird as you think they would be, usually some really hot japanese girl holding the product in her hand, with someone dressed up as a salt shaker screaming and dancing and shaking salt everywhere in the background..

figure skating is also a big deal! huge crowd at a tc store watching- i think japan is pretty good at it.

Shinjuko

Busiest train station in the world, and for some reason i decided to go there at 9, instead of 11 when most shops open. foolish, but still a good day in shinjuko.

went to tokyu hands, ‘creative life store’, basically the biggest department store in the world, full of everything you can imagine. I saw a plush hat which was literally a pile of cartoon poo, next to a mask of barack obama, next to a mask of M.J which was next to a 4 litre vitamin water. It just doesn’t make sense.

Strip club district is very similiar to the london russian girl district. Lot’s of annoying promoters- same anywhere in the world really.

For dinner went to a restaurant up 4 floors in an elevator- it takes a while to get used to the fact that everthing is up, not across. Ate ‘chicken organ’ skewer, ‘chicken skin’ skewer and ‘chicken bone’ skewer basically everyhing but the meat.

Coming to realize that raw egg for dipping rice and meat in is actually legitimate a meal.

in western culture raw egg is really only acknowledged within talking about rocky 1 right?
