Today I checked out the printed magazine. It’s printed on coated stock (which I didn’t want), but everything else looks fine. (minus a few typos) even the layout is ok, and i never printed proofs which is  a massive no no in design. next issue will be way easier to make with this under my belt.

1. It may be slightly less wide - i measured a magazine in japan that was 250mm x 18mm and it just felt better+ i wont need to crop ads as much.

2. if i can get more ads and content it will be a bit thicker+more to read

3. Order less! Although this order was significantly less than last years mag, I think I could get away with 1000 copies for Caulfield. We’ll see. (people pass them around, leave them lying around.) This will mean an easier budget for us as well.

That’s about it. I hope people like it and want to put their own content in it. One day I want to put this motherfucker in an I-Pad!

Last page to fill the mag….(the name for the feature was Trading places-so i pirated like the animal house one)
ITS FINISHED»»»»>cue relief.
Time for Tokyo; may or may not come back.

I’ve been a bit quiet on the bloggin front, mainly because I’ve been holed up like vietnam war prisoner banging out issue 1 of Esperanto. It’s got a new size, new logo, new layout etc and it’s started from a blank document. safe to say it’s been a bit of work. I’m getting to the later stages, but my deadline is in 4 days (for art i think it distrubutes on the 1/3)… and then I’m off  to Tokyo on the 23rd! Nuts..

btw new work from Above! he flew down to Haiti for some topical stencil art.

+ new campaign by FCUK pretty cheeky…

Working on a new logo for Esperanto, my school magazine. I played around with a few different type treatments, was thinking of using bauer bodoni cos it’s pretty cool at the moment.

I started thinking how about just E? My editor might not be happy with it but i think it looks quite refreshing. I want it to be completely flexible like Aol or NYC (both created by Wolff Olins) and generally hated on by most people. So it can be a flat colour, or a two colour so you can see the hidden e (i dont like this version as much), or even as a darker cut of the photo it sits over… id want it more of a mask than a logo. but i want it to be more a logo than a masthead. hear me?

Right now at a photoshoot in Richmond (CI studios) for a new campaign for ANZ
They’re shooting with a Canon EOS-1 Ds, 24-70mm lens FYI.
A tiny blog round up:
I’ve seen a few cool videos by Google, one for their new browser, and one for a new phone.
A bit of vintage type analysis (font feed)
Didonato, my new favourite Melbourne design agency.
An interesting post about razorblades. I knew 5 blades weren’t better!

90% completed invite for our work party. Hashes and speech squares quite a obvious reference to this old hat. It’s now been sliced and linked up and emailed out.
Eating sushi and designing stuff. How masculine; grunt.
