We finished Issue 4!!!! Time to celebrate! I’ve uploaded it to the magazine viewer site Issuu, so you can check it out here before you get your sweaty hands on the final print. (it’s still got printer marks on it, so ill fix that later today).
Few other things: The year in logo design/recent logo trends (i dont really care about logos as much as i used to, but i think their still important).
Possibly the best Magazine art director/editorial designer in the world right now. and he designs a free newspaper supplement! Francesco Franchi.
I’m not oscar the grouch (yet), but I know that commuting to the city will drive me batshit insane in a matter of weeks. Why don’t I live in Japan where the train is actually safe, and nice and fast and have bizzare but hillarious print ads?

I’ve got crazy fast internet in my hostel, and I brought my lappy so i thought I might write a few observations on my first few days.
Cairns international terminal is a joke. but not a funny one. 4 hours felt like half my life.
Bikes ride pretty much wherever the hell they want to, and have these sweet little locks you can’t notice, as opposed to our stupid d-locks and chains.
Metro is fast, but complicated and tickets are a bit expensive.
The city is actually really walkable, and not as aggressively crowded as you think (I haven’t been to west side yet like shibuya and stuff).
Sushi is actually kind of expensive. Better is these sobu/udon noodle bars where you have this vending machine: you pick your meal, and then they make it for you infront of you (in a shop). Really cheap and really tasty.
Yeah there is a shop that sells stationary. On 10 floors.
There’s a suburb that just sells electronic stuff. i saw the half pipe finals on what seemed like a 5 metre wide tv screen.
Tekkan 6 seems to be a big deal for Japanese people.
Yeah beer comes in vending machines.
Everyone is really chill, but I saw probably 6 tourists in a day? And noone else speaks/wants to speak english.

new bike for me, bad karma for whoever stole my old one. so tight! I even had a dream that I found it chained up and was told that I could have it back, Phoenix had ridden it around for a while and forgot where they got it from! I wish that was the case.

Due to a tasty flight deal, and the realisation that I haven’t been overseas for over a year, I am now going to Tokyo for the last week before I start school again in March.
It’s taken a few days of serious google mapping just to get a grasp of the cities’ sprawling tendrils. I just want to eat as much street food I can, crunch vending machine sapporo’s and step inside every last wacky electronic store. I may end up not coming back, but it’s a risk I’m willing to take.
