Mexican Metal: Letterpress posters advertising Lucha Libre fights in Mexico City. Never go around to seeing a fight but I saw these and wall painted signs all around the city looking like this. As Hans Gremmen says ‘this natural way of composing and printing creates a series of posters that could not be designed better.’

Very funny stand-up set by Aziz Ansari from Parks and Recreation, nice logotype too. Looks like Mrs Eaves for the dek?

Lonestar: up and coming typeface (in popularity, but it’s been around for a while). Expect to see it more with html 5, web fonts etc. Oh ignore all the cowboy shit, including it’s stupid name.
Frank Chimero does it well over at the Atlantis World Fair.

Easily the most popular, breakthrough font of 2010. If you look for it, you’ll see it everywhere. I think it’s popularity lay in that it was a high quality free font (three weights) and it was unusually shaped, kinda half serif that looked like bent pipe.

Exploitingly good. Bobby Rod x Kobe x Nike: The Black Mamba.

I dont think that people care if it is branded content as long as it is entertaining.” (Julian Cole)

How’s a flaming swoosh for branded content? Maybe a little gratuitous.

“In the summer of 1984 anvil toured the world with the biggest band in rock. All of them sold millions of records around the world. All of them, but one.”
Ok now for the logos.
Scorpians, classic 70’s sci-fi feel, the font Lady Starlight gets pretty close but it’s design date is 1999 so it’s probably a tribute.
Whitesnake is my favourite of the lot, great 3d cursive treatment. Obviouslly hand done, it reminds me a bit of this post and the Wrangler jeans logo.

Then there’s Bon Jovi. These guys made the most money out of pop metal, but conversely are considered the gayest, biggest sell out’s and generally garner little respect from people who like music. They don’t really have a logo , it seems to change every record but this one is pretty awful-over extended, oblique all caps-looks more like the backstreet boys..

Now go rent the Anvil documentry!
